Tastes Like Strawberries

Dear fellow white people,

yummydick:

Things we should internalize about racism:

  • We can be “nice,” “smart,” “compassionate,” “caring” and racist at the same time. None of these are mutually exclusive.
  • It doesn’t matter if we didn’t mean to be racist. Intentions don’t matter. Actions & consequences do.
  • Just because we “don’t hate people of color” doesn’t mean we’re not racist. Racism is subtle, sub-conscious, and ingrained into every fiber of our being.
  • Racism is about social domination by whites. Isolated incidents are only relevant if they relate to greater social truths.
  • Having friendly/romantic relationships with people of color does not make us exempt from being racist.
  • We don’t live in a vacuum. Everything we do relates to society as a whole.
  • Prejudice and racism are not the same thing. White people do not and cannot directly experience racism against themselves.
  • Just because we’re queer, non-christian, whatever we can still be racist.
  • People of color have more experience with racism than us in the West and regions dominated by the West. Always.

And most importantly:

  • It’s not about how we feel. It is not about us.

The only part I disagree with is the last line.

With every issue, it’s about everyone that’s involved, to some degree. You cannot solve a problem by ignoring a party in it, even if said party is the source of the problem. The best you can do in that case is flip the problem around. Invert the oppression as opposed to ending it.

Now, chances are, I’ll have fifty thousand people screaming “White supremacist” in my face for even saying that, but if you take a stance of WHITE PEOPLE CAN NEVER HAVE ANY SAY IN DISCUSSIONS ABOUT RACISM, that means there’s no one to say “no” if it turns from ending oppression to imposing warped concepts such as “justice” or revenge upon the (most often unintentional) oppressors.

This isn’t about justice. This is about ending oppression. Making equality a real thing, as opposed to making Whites pay for not only the racist behaviour that they engage in today, but also the atrocities that their long-dead ancestors committed; nor is this about equal laws either, as we already have those, and they’ve done little to foster actual equality.

The cause I support here? Everyone treating each other equally. An abolition of oppression and privilege.

And it seems like no one on here gets that. Most of the people on here act like privilege doesn’t exist, and those who don’t most often believe that the solution is revenge against White people. Just no.

PS: before you call me racist for rejecting “justice”, it’s a concept that I’m opposed to regardless of the circumstances. Justice is simply wrong. It doesn’t rehabilitate, it doesn’t restore, and it doesn’t repel well either, so it’s pretty much trying to make right by correcting wrong with wrong.
